Activities Assistant: 64-72 hs/pay period

POSITION/JOB SUMMARY:

  • Under the direction of the Activity Director, the Activity Assistant will assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing activity programs on a daily basis to meet the individual resident’s and swing bed patient’s needs, preferences, and interests. 

This position is typically scheduled 8-hour days, every fourth weekend, some evenings and some holidays. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Is knowledgeable of patient and resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all patients and residents in a safe, secure environment.
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, swing bed patients, families, community members, volunteers and facility staff. Be trained in working with residents with dementia and behaviors.
  • Ability to encourage and motivate residents to participate in meaningful activities.
  • Knowledge of various resident activities and preferences, and have familiarity with resident limitations and needs
  • Possess special interest in and positive attitude about working with short-term and long-term care residents and swing bed patients. Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, swing bed patients, families, community members, volunteers and facility staff. Be trained in working with residents with dementia and behaviors.

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS

  • Is knowledgeable of patient and resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all patients and residents in a safe, secure environment.
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
    • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
    • Confidentiality of all data, including patient, resident, employee, and operations data.
    • Quality assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from any sort of harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.

    • Follow up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers, patients, or residents regarding reported complaints, problems, and/or concerns.
    • Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members and guests.
    • Completes requirements for in-service and annual training, acceptable attendance, uniform dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Sensitivity to the needs, interests, and abilities of Residents and Swing Bed Patients.

  • Ability to encourage and motivate residents to participate in meaningful activities.
  • Moderately complex problem solving, excellent safety judgment, short and long term memory.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Constant use of sight, hearing, and speech for reading, identification, and communications.
  • Intermittent use of touch.
  • Be able to work in close cooperation with the Activity Director, accept and utilize constructive criticism, and display initiative to complete related tasks and programs.
  • Ability to document in EMR.
  • Be familiar with Word, Microsoft Photo Editor, and Excel programs to make forms, newsletters, etc. Be able to email calendars, newsletters, etc. to families, newspapers, radio station, etc.
  • Possess current driver’s license.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Have a thorough knowledge of various resident activities and preferences, and have familiarity with resident limitations and needs
  • Differential for having CNA Certification
